After activity discussion

Now that everybody knows how to create a blog for their students, what are some of the ways you are going to be able to incorporate this into your own classroom? How will you blog with your students? Do you think blogging is a useful tool for classrooms or not?

  4. I can use blogs to let my students comment on their reading assignments from any location...not just in the classroom. I think blogging is very useful because it is so easily assessable and it gets them writing!!

  5. My idea of blogging is to merge the role of literature into technology. The students can either create a blog as a character or respond in class discussions. I'll blog by giving them topic ideas for them to expand on, creating their own blog sites, or have a base site and exapnd off of that. I think blogging is a very useful tool; the fact that you can remain anonymous lets students roam into their imaginations and create fantastic writing.

  6. I notice that many of the students who are blogging are younger. I wonder if high school teachers are more reluctant to use blogging.

  7. I can use blogs to create a discussion board about a novel that we are currently reading about a class. This could be a safe place for students to discuss whether or not they like the book, what they want to do in the class, and how they are feeling about the class and book as a whole. This would be a great way for me as a teacher to reflect on what is going on in my own class by reading what the students have to say about the it.

  9. As a writing teacher, I have encouraged students to post their essays from class on their own blogs, and some of them have. I've thought about creating class blogs in the past as a venue for showcasing students' writing, and I hope to do that in the future. I'm especially interested in having students create blogs about local community issues. As local newspapers disappear, I think community bloggers can fill the void to some degree, and we can inspire our students start blogging about community issues early in life.

  10. I think that blogging is so versatile in its uses that there are many ways to infuse English Education and technology. I think it would be irresponsible NOT to use applications like these in the classroom (assuming you have access to them). A good way to use blogging in this sense is to have students to a writing project on a blog site. As the teacher, you can designate roles like writers and editors to the students, and the end result can be a community-written project that is available to everyone online. I think the great thing about this is that the teacher doesn't need to take too much of an authoritative role, just act as somewhat of a "board administrator." If students know that they have autonomy, I feel that they would be even more engaged in technology-based activities.
